foundations.

I was recently introduced to the Poe Family blog, thanks to Jessica
To say that Mama Poe has it going on is a major understatement.
Just when I thought I was crafty and creative and doing some really cool things... psshh!
She is the mom of two precious boys very close in age to my two.
I have only been reading her blog for a week now and already
I am racking up ideas to do in my own home, with my family.

One thing I loved was her "Letter of the Week" idea.
There's two things I really want to do more of in my home...
actively teach my kids and bring JESUS into our daily activities.
So, we are borrowing her great idea of a Letter of the Week...
I haven't read to find how hers started, or what the specifics of theirs is.
But, I gather that the gist of it is to select a letter of the alphabet and
center your activities, treats, outings, play time, and words around that letter.

Today, I cut 26 brightly colored squares out of paint samples I'd gotten at the store.
Each one got a letter of the alphabet, then I put them in a green tin suitcase we had.
Carson chose our first letter... M! Going forward, we'll choose a new letter each Sunday.
I was excited about the letter M-- it's an "easy" one to start with.
He was able to quickly rattle off lots of things that start with the letter M...
we'll take that list and run with it this week! I'm excited about the next 26 weeks!
We've got a ribbon alongside the refrigerator that we're gluing the letters to
as we choose them so we can see which ones we've already done, and see what's left to be chosen.
More importantly, I wanted to begin to really focus on Bible verses at home.
I don't expect him to be able to memorize a verse a week--
but I want these scriptures to become as familiar to him as the alphabet.
So, when we choose a letter each Sunday, we'll also get a new Bible verse.
I stopped by Michael's today and bought a package of the cutest cardstock.
Polka dots and gingham in bright primary colors for $3.99.
I'm going to print out the letter of the week really big and the scripture of the week
and we'll keep them taped to our fridge for the week.
I'm really excited about these two new "traditions" we're starting.
I hope Carson learns a lot and that it's something we can keep going
long enough for Slade to start participating.

If you want, I'd be more than happy to email you the letter and Bible verse files
so you can print copies for yourself, if you'd like to join us each week.
Just send me an email to thetichenorfamily {at} gmail {dot} com
