As you know, sweet Miles turned one last week.
I debated for months on what to do to celebrate his first birthday. I started out with
the plan to do a BIG, BLOWOUT first birthday party like we've done in year's past.
The guest list kept growing, and growing, and growing and I was increasingly more stressed.
I decide to scrap the big party and do something small and intimate with just our family
and closest friends. But there were still people who felt left out and I just couldn't make
"small" work. After so much deliberation and focus on WHO should come to his party and
not WHO the party was for... I finally scrapped the idea of ANY party at all and just focused
on celebrating Miles. We ended up having a little lunch with just our family at our favorite restaurant.
I made a cake, had a sweet little outfit made for him, we got balloons and just kept it simple.
It ended up being the perfect solution and I am so thankful I let go of the anxiety that comes
with a party and a guest list. It just gets really difficult when you have multiple children.
Who do you invite? I have friends who have kids Carson's age... and Slade's age... and Miles's age...
when is it okay to draw the line and just include those who have kids the age of the child
you're celebrating? I'm not sure. But, I do know that choosing to celebrate with family
and queso made us all very happy this past weekend. It was a good call all around.
Something got smudged on my camera-lens mid party so there's a blurry spot on all of these!
But, my goodness if I do not ABSOLUTELY adore this picture! My little Valentine's!
Mommy & Miles... oh my heart!
Carson and cousin Harper... they are the best of buds!
Cake time for the 1 year old... I attempted to make the blue ombre dot cake seen on Pinterest.
My icing was too runny so it kept slipping down the sides. I swiped it all the way around the cake
and ended up with ombre stripes instead. Definitely not going to win any bakery awards...
but it was yummy! And, Miles didn't seem to mind my lack of skills.
Gotta love the singing mariachis on your birthday at Lopez!
Happy, Happy Birthday to our precious Miles!
We had the best time celebrating your first year of life.

Happy first birthday to your sweet boy :) Also, you look fabulous in all of these pics. Love your hair!

ReplyDeleteLove your highlights so pretty! Happy birthday to Miles! I'll be hosting my first "first" birthday next month and am also keeping it primarily family and close friends with babies. I agree, it's easy to go overboard! :)
ReplyDeleteThe perfect party, and a perfect and precious birthday boy!!! Love you.
ReplyDeletehappy happy day to precious miles! we've been heading in that same direction lately....scrapping the big blowouts and just going for a celebration that's all about my babies. not one that focuses on decorations, and guests, and favors, etc, etc, etc... because you're right - it should be all about the birthday boy/girl. thanks for the reminder! love all these pics - especially Carson in his mardi gras beads - ha! and the one of you and all your boys. :)
ReplyDeletehappy birthday what wonderful pictures how sweet
ReplyDeletecome see what I shared at http://shopannies.blogspot.com
Happy happy birthday to sweet Miles! You look absolutely beautiful, friend. Just gorgeous! You are blessed with a beautiful family. How much fun!! It looks like y'all had such a fantastic day celebrating!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of doing a joint bday party for the boys this year. (May 5 and June 5) We have so many friends with kids the same ages, so I think we'll just embrace the chaos this year. We didn't do a party for Hudson last year and I hate to do that two years in a row. But I'd really like to just take them to the beach. :)
Happy Birthday sweet Miles! Your family is beautiful and I love your hair!
ReplyDeleteFirst off loving your hair!! 2nd way to go and do what you felt best! It turned out adorable and way to end the nigh stress free!!

I'm so glad that y'all had an awesome day celebrating that sweet angel. I need to give him some belated birthday hugs! Hope to get to see y'all tomorrow for a second! If not, a quick porch drop-off will work just fine! :)
